It started with a $20 Instagram post.
"In 2012, my partner paid a girl on Instagram to post about the app. Influencer marketing was not a thing back then. She simply had a lot of followers so we paid her $20 through PayPal, she posted about our app, and it brought us thousands of users."Scott Paul, Utah Business, January 2021
The app was Voto, a social network for voting on photos with friends. When the influencer asked if her friends could promote it too, the idea of a roster of influencers took off. Instafluence became one of the first influencer marketing companies, back when Instagram had not launched an ad product yet.
Voto pays one Instagram creator $20 to post. It works.
Instafluence launches. "We are a fast and nimble team based in Phoenix, AZ."
Apps, brands and influencers, across Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Vine and YouTube.
Acquired by Maker Studios, a Disney company. Scott stays on as VP of Product.
